Videos!

On weekdays Sofia hangs out with her good friend Jackson while we’re at work. Last week Jackson’s parents posted some clips on to youtube from a few months ago. It’s a cute overload that makes me want to stay home from work and have an all day dance party.

A lot of mornings “Jackson!” is one of her first words after we get her out of her crib. He’s her best friend. Here’s some video of one of their more tender moments.

Some Summer Things

We had our first heat wave of the summer. A complete week of days in the high 90’s and lows in the 70’s. Nothing to complain about compared to the folks in Iowa. Yikes.

But it was high time to bust out the molded plastic kiddie pool and have a naked pool party. I think the water was surprisingly cold when it was time to actually get in.

After a dip in the pool it was time for a quick soft shoe number with Dad’s hat. More things to blackmail her with later.

In other news, there have been more than a couple of close calls with Sofia trying to pull down the guitars off the wall hangers in the den and almost having them fall on her head. She gets really excited every time she sees them and yells “tar! tar!”

So this week we ordered her a toy guitar that she could play with all she wants without danger of concussion. When she came home from the babysitters, Jim pointed at the guitar he had propped up near the toy box and asked her what it was. Her eyes got really wide and she whispered “Taaaaar.”

For the first day or so she wouldn’t put it down. At one point she insisted on holding onto it while I changed her diaper. Her technique is interesting but serviceable.

And I guess the punk rock attitude is part of the genetic package. This is especially true after a good tantrum. Fierce.

I’ll avoid being a braggart by not going into to many details, but she is a very chatty girl. She knows lots and lots of words, meaning we REALLY need to watch what we say. She still loves books and even points to words and letters she sees trying to spell them out “A, B, C, O, S, R, I, B, D, C, …etc.” (But that’s not to say she points at the right letters when she says them). She also points to the Obama poster on the wall and says “Hi ‘Bama!”, we ask her what Obama says and she chirps “‘ope.” So yes, the indoctrination is working.

Sometimes she’s really shy, sometimes she’s not. It’s hard to know how she’ll react to certain situations. At times she loves to be the center of attention and other times she’ll run and hide her head in my legs.

G & G visit

Grandma and Grandpa were good Americans and spent their tax rebate helping out the aviation industry, so we got to hang out with them over Memorial Day.

Sofia is quite a bit more active and verbal since they were here in December, so they got to try and decipher lots of words and keep up with her active lifestyle.

Trying new restaurants is fun.

Eating out is always fun.

Almost got that fork thing down.

Almost got that kissing thing down.

Jerry Lee Lewis is a big influence. Here’s hoping Sofia is a better piano student than I was (and has someone as patient as Grandma to make sure the practicing gets done…).

Grandma learned how much fun Legos are.

Don’t be trying to take my book away.

Take a lesson from Grandpa, he’s read to kids a few times…

“That’s all! Bye bye!”

Come back soon!

Apples!

Ok, these pics are from last month — but Apples are still a big hit around here.

And she likes to share.

In other news…new words and short phrases are coming fast and furious, she even started pointing at letters and making sounds, so I guess she understands they are symbolic of something or other. I don’t want her to grow up too fast, but I’m excited about all the new chatter because I think she’ll be really fun to talk to. She’s a little shy sometimes, which isn’t a big surprise because both Jim & I were kind of on the shy side as kids.

Grandpa & Grandma are here for a few days so we’ll have some pics of them up soon!

Jim is “Rich in Babies!”

Jim got to bounce some babies during a playdate with friends Josie & Kristin.

Big Girl Stuff, Part 2

Sofia likes doing stuff on her own more and more. Here she is brushing her teeth, sometimes she’ll even brush mine.

Goofball

I have to say, one of the funnest parts of living with this kid has been watching her sense of humor emerge. I was looking into this and it appears that sense of humor is a learned trait rather then one that’s inherited. We must be doing something right because every day she makes us laugh our heads off.

Here she is doing her peek-a-boo act. When she pokes her head around the corner she always makes a loud “aaach” noise, as if to say “Surprise!” This really cracks her up.

She also really likes to make big entrances.

And if she is actually imitating us, well…ahh, you can imagine what happens when we rock out around here.
